Types of Vegetarians

There are various levels of vegetarianism. If you are considering vegetarians, you should consider your personal beliefs, your nutritional needs, and dietary desires in order to find the perfect balance for you.  Below are brief descriptions about each type of vegetarianism.

  • Total Vegetarians eat only plant food. They do not consume any animal food. No fish, eggs, diary, or honey.
  • Vegans are the strictest of all vegetarians. They do not consume animal products at all. ANY animal by product is eliminated in their diet and their daily lives. Vegans use nothing from animals. Not wool, leather, or silk.
  • Lacto-Vegetarians include dairy products into their diet of plant food.
  • Lacto-Ovo-Vegetarians eat both eggs and dairy products.
  • Pesco-Vegetarians include fish into their diets.
  • Pollo-Vegetarians eat poultry, such as chicken, turkey, and duck.

Some vegetarians will combine Pesco and Pollo, which  means, they will consume fish and poultry in their diets. So, you see, despite popular belief, vegetarians do include some meat products into their diet. Again, it’s all based around what works best for you and your life.
